The entire structure of Mama Day is fitting to the tell of multiple love stories entertwined. Like the most heartfelt episode of Seinfeld perpetually Gloria Naylor doesn&8217t tell a love story, but rather lays out in detail the events of everyday life for all of the central characters. Even though Abigail is Cocoa&8217s grandmother and Mama Day is her great-aunt, they both take on the role of mother through their mutual love for her. There is also the love story between Bernice, Ambush and Little Caesar. Despite their squabbles, they love each other. Love is one of the major themes in this book.Gloria Naylor steps aside and le ts the characters do her work for her. Love has the unfortunate nature of being objective and the best way to tell love stories is from every point of view. How else can one recognise from the outside? On page one she starts with Cocoa telling her side of things and on twenty-two here comes George&8217s side. And it continues on like this, back and forth, telling both sides of certain events through the fog that is each character&8217s own perception of things. This is a brilliant manipulation of point of views and one of the saving features of the book. The reader&8217s attention is caught when they have to re-associate themselves to a new point of view. In the ultimate representation of what love is this point of view switch is utilize to show likeness of thought between Ophelia and George toward the end of the novel. The words &8220OUR WORST FIGHT EVER appear twice in the novel. Once at the beginning of Cocoa&8217s account of the event and again at the beginning of George&8217 s (Naylor 230-232). It is unfair to people who do not shoplift to pay for the mistakes t hat shoplifters make.People in the community who are not as laden as others go through a harder time paying for their food and needs, and when they heart they cant spread out spending too much money at a certain retail store they provide have to go to another destination to shop, causing a great inconvience to them and also the retail store will be losing money and might even close down in the future. We also stand out on a personal level, when an employee who realizes an item has been stolen from their store. They often feel violated, and when they feel violated it causes them to lose trustingness in others.So store employee follow potential merchants, watching their e very move, making potential merchants uneasy and vile when they are innocent. As there is no look of a shoplifter, there is no way to direct whether a person is going to shoplift or not. And thus trust is lost between the merchant and the retailer. She did admitted her disappointment in me but she told me I am still a unspoilt person.That made me realized that as a individual we belong to a community, and we make up what the community will become, each of us play a role to become someone big than themselves. When someone does well another will also want to do well. We could start by doing community work and volunteering at places that need our help. Helping others can without a doubt make you feel better about yourself, shoplifting will only make that empty feeling deeper as you start to feel guilty and worthless that others are better than you for not shoplifting. Shoplifting is illegal and is a punishable crime by law.It is not a small crime whether you stole fifty dollars worth of items or ten dollars worth of items. The crime is the same you have shoplifted from the store, and stolen something that doesnt belong to you. For example, you can be arrested and paraded through a store in handcuffs, banned from stores or malls, and you may even end up with a criminal record. If you get a criminal record especially when you are young people will treat you l ike an ex-convict, itll be harder to get a job, get into college, or anything else that need a criminal background check. Which is mostly everything.Shoplifting can destroy your life but remember even without getting caught can shoplifting also ruin your life, as I have already stated that shoplifting affects you emotionally the same thing applies here you lose your self- find and your respect for others. Small crime doesnt mean no crime. Responsibilty for your family, friends and the people border you, there are people that look up, like youre their role model. I myself have siblings and I hope very much they dont follow in my footsteps I have neer done anything that would cause people to lose their faith and respect in me.It is my responsibilty to set a good role model for my younger siblings. Also you as an individual have a responsibility as a civilent to be a good role model to the community. Never think that there is no one watching you, there is always someone watching and looking up to you in respect if youve done the right things. Respect is something you earn not given.
